KoAGI-Led Resolution on Wild Plant Conservation in SIDS Officially Adopted by IUCN Image

The Korea Arboreta and Gardens Institute (KoAGI) and the Korea Forest Service (KFS) announced that a motion they jointly proposed has been formally approved as an official resolution by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

The motion (095), titled “Wild Plant Conservation to Ensure the Future of SIDS,” was adopted following a global electronic vote by IUCN members in September.

The resolution formally incorporates the urgent need for wild plant conservation in Small Island Developing States (SIDS) into IUCN’s official policy framework. KoAGI expects this landmark decision to elevate global attention to the issue and to catalyze stronger, more targeted support from the Union for these nations, which are on the front lines of climate change and biodiversity loss.

This resolution also provides critical policy backing for KoAGI’s flagship SIDS39 Seed Conservation Project. With official support secured, KoAGI hopes the project can move beyond its pilot phase, foster deeper collaborations, and connect with a wider network of conservation initiatives across SIDS.

Sang-Taek Sim, President of KoAGI, said: "The successful approval of this resolution is a monumental achievement, made possible through our strong partnership with KFS. This isn't just a policy document – it is a commitment from the global conservation community to support SIDS. It provides a powerful mandate for our SIDS39 project, enabling us to help build resilient futures for these vital ecosystems."

This milestone underscores KoAGI's growing influence in shaping global conservation policy and its commitment to translating strategy into real, on-the-ground action.
